        History

        Artist -
"Working in multi-media, Jack Amoroso's medley of art reflects the experience he's gained through a lifetime of traveling and painting in more than 30 countries. Founder of the Coconut Grove Arts Festival and father of the art scene in Miami since the 1960's, he has lived and painted in Coconut Grove for 55 years.

Amoroso illustrated the famed "Freedom River" by Marjorie Stoneham Douglas. Among his greatest experiences was his close friendship with Pablo Picasso which began decades ago when he was living in the south of France.

In 2017, a fire resulting from Hurricane Irma took Jack's beloved Coconut Grove home. Patty, Jack's wife and muse for over 50 years passed away soon after.

Today Amoroso continues producing his amazing work in his new studio in Coral Gables. At 94 his work continues to evolve with a richness of color and strength in each stroke that only a master can achieve."

Amoroso served as Art Director of the Playhouse from 1956-1960, as well as Vice-President and Art Director of the Playhouse Gallery.
