Clippings, correspondence, brochures, typescripts, invitations and other memorabilia trace the career of Lieutenant Colonel Earl Hoag and with it much early history of American aviation. Includes Miami High School student yearbook (Miahi 1914); a wealth of aviation clippings for 1917-1921; with much information on the 1919 transcontinental air race during which 10 out of 39 pilots were killed.

Concert programs, newsclippings, correspondence, magazine articles, cartoons, photographic prints, and newsletters trace the activities of the Miami Conservatory from its beginning in 1921 until the mid-1950s. Material also covers a wide range of musical events, organizations and individuals in South Florida for those years. There is also much information on the early years of the University of Miami, on the Aeolian Chorus (women's voices), and on the Musicians Club of America, which aimed to provide retirement facilities for musicians

Record books are missing many pages; remaining information pertains to Miami Beach sales figures, use of electricity, water and so on for varying years. Papers include a proposal addressed to the Miami Beach City Commission, for improvements to be made in 1926, two maps showing these proposed sewers, paving and water mains; and a report from the Miami Beach City Auditor for August 1931

Correspondence, clippings, and typescripts of articles and books by Griswold. Much of the material pertains to his unpublished work on Dr. Henry Perrine. Articles date primarily from the 1940s, when Griswold was freelancing in Key West.

Correspondence, newspaper clippings, genealogical material, and photocopies of 19th century letters pertain to Indian Key history, especially the estate of Jacob Housman, who owned much of the island until Indians destroyed the settlement in 1840.

A diary of a 1960 visit to Jamaica (probably by Mrs. Griswold) and typescripts on Islandia (by C.P. Idyll) and the Museum of Science.

Source material, correspondence, typescripts, and photographic prints pertain to Griswold as a writer and conservationist. Includes a letter from William C. Sturtevant about the political action leading to the establishment of Everglades National Park; correspondence relating to the Historical Association's preservation of the Housman grave marker from Indian Key; material about the 1905 murder of game warden Guy Bradley, a victim of the egret plume trade; a radio script: Going places with Griswold; and detailed outlines for a proposed South Florida handbook, to be written by Griswold and Charles Brookfield.

Newspaper clippings, photographic prints, correspondence, postcards, greeting cards, legal documents and personal memorabilia pertain to Miami Area history and the history of the Huddleston family. The collection is particularly rich in vivid handwritten descriptions and newspaper obituaries of Miami pioneers who died in the 1950s. Also included are newspaper accounts of historic buildings and personalities, as well as the social activities of members of pioneer families, and of the meetings of the Miami Pioneers group.

Scrapbook marked "Finished 1955" in Box 6 has much of the Huddleston family material, including Farmer City, Illinois, newspaper clippings.

Research papers on settlements and people in South Dade (Miami-Dade County, Fla.), from Larkins (South Miami) and Kendall south to Homestead and Florida City, during the 1800s to 1926.

The papers hold topical folders of clippings, manuscripts, typescripts, photocopies, correspondence and notes used by Jean Taylor in researching her book, The Villages of South Dade. Also includes oral history interview sound cassettes and notebooks, the typescripts for Villages of South Dade and for Culture in the Boondocks, and material for the classes that she taught on South Dade history. Also included is a student paper Jean Taylor wrote on the early history of Miami, with annotations by her teacher, Marjory Stoneman Douglas; five 1906-1907 issues of Gustav Stickley's magazine, The Craftsman, given to Jean Taylor by Patty Munroe Catlow; and a photocopy of the National Register nomination for Silver Palm schoolhouse.

Bulk of the collection consists of scrapbooks with dated newspaper clippings, club announcements and invitations. The older of two minute books is in Kirk Munroe's handwriting, with dates from 1909 April 3 to 1911 February 14. The other minute book covers 1921-1926; the first four months again in Munroe's handwriting; later entries are typed. Scrapbook clippings are about activities and obituaries of club members as well as club events and yacht races. Years covered by scrapbooks: 1937-1959, 1961 and 1964. Club handbooks included are from 1910, 1926 and 1948

Scrapbooks of clippings include the question-and-answer format Column with a Hart; the Glamor Clinic series; and general articles written by Eleanor Hart as a Miami Herald staff columnist. There are a few letters from individuals and organizations, usually thanking Miss Hart for help with a project. During these years people were moving to South Florida from other states in great numbers, and the columns include much advice on adjusting to life in a new community, as well as providing a clear reflection of contemporary social standards for women

More than half the collection consists of issues of the Association's newsletter, Dade County Teacher (issues from 1958-1973). It also includes the minutes from those years, and some news releases and handouts.

Photographic prints and newspaper clippings document the construction of Casa Casuarina Apartments, 1116 Ocean Drive, in 1930. Its general contractor was Willard Hubbell, and this scrapbook is also a Hubbell family album. There are many prints of his daughter Rosemary's childhood; material on his father, Henry Salem Hubbell, well-known portrait painter; clippings on Willard Hubbell's fruit and vegetable farming under cloth greenhouses, and a 1946 brochure of the Riddle Inter-American Institute, when he was its Dean. Photoprint backgrounds include a variety of Miami Beach and Coconut Grove houses, including David Fairchild's Kampong, Marjory Stoneman Douglas' home and Ye Little Wood.

Bulk of the collection concerns the Apthorp family, especially William Lee Apthorp. Much genealogical information; documents, including two short diaries, deeds, letters, primarily with 19th century dates; an 1877 map of Florida, and items related to William Lee Apthorp's Civil War service (source of some of the diaries). Also included are 24 items relating to the Osgood family, and smaller amounts for the Weeks and Morse families. Other items: William H. Gleason's 1868 Proclamation (against Governor Harrison Reed); and a 1975 publication: The People of lawmaking in Florida, 1845/1975.
