Biographical history

Igor Polevitzky was a South Florida-based architect. Born in Russia 1912, immigrated to the U.S. in 1922, and graduated with honors from the University of Pennsylvania. Moved to Miami in 1934. Designed hotels, office buildings, and houses throughout South Florida and Cuba until the mid-1960s, when he retired to Colorado. Polevitzky died 1978.

Exhibition-quality photographic prints of buildings designed by architect Igor B. Polevitsky between 1934 and the mid-1960s. Photographers include Samuel H. Gottscho, Rudi Rada, and Ernest Graham. Includes views of Miami Beach and Miami residences (Birdcage house), Miami Beach hotels (Shelbourne, Albion, etc.), Havana hotels (Havana Biltmore, Havana Riviera), automotive businesses (car dealerships, gas stations, General Tires), retail shops (jewelry and shoe stores), offices (Kislak Mortgage, etc.), and other businesses (Arthur Murray, restaurants).
