        History

        H. Willard Hubbell, was the son of artist Henry Salem Hubbell, trained as a mechanical engineer, he moved to Miami in 1924-25. Finding little engineering work, he turned to general contracting and fruit and vegetable farming. Among the homes he built were Casa Casuarina (renamed the Amsterdam Palace, and purchased by designer, Gianni Versace during the 1990s) and the Kampong, he also completed Marjory Stoneman Douglas' home after the 1926 hurricane. Hubbell also taught at a business academy and at the University of Miami.
