Scrapbooks contain newspaper clippings (primarily from The Miami Herald and The Miami News), correspondence and photographic prints trace the creation of the Miami River Committee, forerunner of the Miami River Advisory Board, and the drive to clean up the river that lead to county government involvement and the City of Miami's clean-up barge, "Mrs. Clean."

Papers include correspondence, photographic prints, clippings, brochures, songs, monographs and other memorabilia tracing the dual lives and careers of Kate Thornhill/Irma LaBastille. As Irma LaBastille, her interest in Latin American culture is reflected in her collection of Latin American dances and music, and material on the Inter-American Music Council; as Kate Thornhill, her stevedoring business and her efforts to clean up the Miami River are documented.

Folder 18 in box 2  has issues of magazines with articles on Latin American music and culture, and her report on the 1951 First Inter-American Music Conference held at the Columbus Hotel in Miami. Also includes pamphlets issued by Pan American World Airways intended to accompany their "Wings to..." series of 16mm films, which were loaned to schools and groups.
